NEED DOESN’T GET A VACATION

SHARE Charlotte Dives into #summershareCLT To Support 49 Nonprofits

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 13, 2015)SHARE Charlotte dives into #summershareCLT, a summer campaign that emphasizes the importance of giving year-round and encourages the community to support 49 Charlotte nonprofits.

During the summer, many local nonprofits experience the greatest need. Therefore, #summershareCLT asks neighbors to make in-kind or monetary donations to participating organizations.

Beginning July 13 and concluding July 26, Charlotte can support nonprofits by shopping each organization’s wish list or making a monetary donation at www.summershareCLT.org.

“During the summer, it’s easy to forget about helping others with vacation plans and kids out of school,” said Kelly Brooks with SHARE Charlotte. “#summershareCLT is about educating Charlotte that there is always a need and to keep it top of mind. One gift, big or small, will make a big impact, and it will only take five minutes!"

Need doesn’t get a vacation.

For example, Crisis Assistance Ministry wishes for school uniforms to equip boys and girls in need so they can be “dressed to learn” while ballet shoes and little girls’ leotards allow Charlotte Ballet to offer dance programs for children with evidenced financial need.

The Humane Society of Charlotte seeks premium extra-large orthopedic memory foam dog beds for the kennels, canned food for the adult cat and kitten rooms and all-absorb training pads for the puppies and kittens in foster care.

“Our needs are never-ending yet many people aren’t aware,” said Sterling Oliver with Mecklenburg Guardian ad Litem Advocacy Foundation. “We always need suitcases, duffel bags and locked journals for the abused and neglected children we serve that are removed from their homes abruptly. #summershareCLT is imperative to educate our community and encourage simple yet impactful action.”

SHARE Charlotte also spearheaded the 2014 #GivingTuesdayCLT campaign, generating more than $377,000 in donations and more than 9,000 volunteer hours pledged to benefit 64 nonprofits.
