600 FESTIVAL™ ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES THREE NEW EVENTS IN
CABARRUS AND IREDELL COUNTIES

Coca-Cola moves to title sponsor of Speed Street for the event’s 20th year.

HARRISBURG, N.C. (March 27, 2014) – Thursday, the 600 Festival™ Association, a nonprofit organization aimed at promoting and celebrating motor sports in the Charlotte region, announced it would add three free events during May in Cabarrus and Iredell counties.

“In honor of the 600 Festival™ Association’s 30th anniversary, we wanted to return to the original mission of creating a comprehensive experience to celebrate motor sports throughout the local region,” said Jacqueline Gafrarar, general manager of the 600 Festival™ Association. “Kannapolis, Concord and Mooresville were the ideal locations for the new events due to their strong support of both the 600 Festival™ Association and the sport of NASCAR.”

Movies on the Campus” will kick off the 600 Festival™ Association’s event lineup May 9 in downtown Kannapolis, N.C. In conjunction with the Village Jiggy Jam, the 600 Festival™ Association is producing the Village Jiggy Jam’s first double feature. Two racing-themed movies, Disney’s Planes and Six Pack, will be played on the outdoor screen beginning at 8:15 p.m.

On May 15 at 6 p.m., more than 40 NASCAR Sprint Cup SeriesTM haulers will make their way down Union Street in Concord, N.C., for “Haulers on Union.” The Tams performance at Union Street Live will begin immediately after the final hauler exits historic downtown en route to Charlotte Motor Speedway.

On May 20, the “Little 600 Race” will take place at GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, N.C. Using the motorplex’s fleet of rental karts, the 15-lap main event race will feature a full field of NASCAR drivers in addition to the Lady 600. The event will kick off at 4 p.m.

The 600 Festival™ Association’s most notable event, Speed Street, is proud to have its two longest-standing sponsors, Coca-Cola and Chevrolet, as title and presenting sponsors, respectively, for the 20th annual event. Coca-Cola Speed Street presented by Chevrolet, which offers an unprecedented consumer experience, will take place in Uptown Charlotte May 22-24. The three-day event offers live entertainment, access to racing’s brightest stars and interactive displays from sponsors including Coca-Cola, Chevrolet and many more. This year’s musical entertainment will include headliners Who’s Bad Thursday night, Thompson Square Friday night and .38 Special Saturday night.

“Coca-Cola has been an exceptional partner for Speed Street since its inception,” said Jay Howard, president of the 600 Festival™ Association. “The brand has an unremarkable imprint on the world of racing, and we are thrilled to have them as our title sponsor for our milestone 20th year.”
